Knowing when an animal would benefit the most from a humane euthanasia is never easy. Our doctors are here to help answer the question
IS IT TIME?
An appointment allows the doctor to see the mental and physical state your pet is in to make the suggestion accurately. Do understand that you are not forced to make any decisions on the spot. For many of us, we need time to think things over, and that’s okay.
We love your pets and euthanasias are never easy. But we’re here to help you make that call and keep the process as peaceful as possible. If you would prefer a home euthanasia, please contact us for information on local organizations that provide that service. If you choose to have it done at our clinic, here is what you can expect when it comes time:
Paperwork & Process
Once you arrive at the clinic, you’ll be escorted into a room. Someone will be in shortly to go over paperwork and to discuss cremation options. After the paperwork, a technician will be in to go over the euthanasia process with you. For some, this may be your first euthanasia, and we do not want to keep you in the dark. And for others, you are far too familiar with the process. Either way, we are here to make this as peaceful as possible.
Sedation
Your technician or doctor will bring in your pet’s sedation. We sedate your pet prior to euthanasia to decrease their stress. In this way, they will be able to fall asleep surrounded with the people they love. This sedation commonly take 5-15 minutes to take full effect and will bring your pet into a comfortable sleep. Once your pet is resting comfortably, your doctor will come in to administer the final euthanasia solution.
Goodbyes
You are more than welcome to spend time with your pet saying goodbye, and you may be present for as much or as little of the euthanasia process as you feel comfortable with. We understand how difficult this may be, and want you to have the best possible experience considering the circumstances.
Remembered
After you have left the room, your technician will return and respectfully cover your pet with a soft blanket. We will then provide you with your pet's paw prints so you can have a long-lasting memory of your beloved companion. There are other ways to remember your pet as well, so please talk to your technician about your options.
